Luxury Watch Care Guide

A luxury timepiece is more than just an accessory; it’s an investment that deserves proper care. Whether you own a classic dress watch, a robust sports model, or a high-end collector’s piece, regular maintenance ensures longevity, accuracy, and value retention. Follow our expert care tips to keep your watch in pristine condition for years to come.

1. Daily Care Tips

  • Wipe After Use: Clean your watch with a soft microfiber cloth to remove sweat, dust, and dirt. For water-resistant watches, use a damp cloth but avoid excessive moisture on leather straps.

  • Avoid Extreme Conditions: Protect your watch from extreme temperatures (above 60°C / 140°F or below 0°C / 32°F) and strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, refrigerators, mobile phones), which can affect the movement.

  • Proper Storage: When not in use, store your watch in its original box or a soft pouch to prevent scratches. For automatic watches, consider using a watch winder to keep the movement running smoothly.

2. Water Resistance & Care

  • Know Your Watch’s Water Resistance Rating:

    • 30m (3ATM): Resistant to splashes but not suitable for swimming.

    • 50m-100m (5-10ATM): Suitable for swimming but not diving.

    • 200m+ (20ATM and above): Safe for professional diving.

  • Protect Your Watch from Water Damage:

    • Avoid hot water & steam (saunas, hot showers, hot tubs) as they can weaken water seals.

    • Check the crown to ensure it is fully closed before exposure to water.

    • Regularly inspect seals to ensure water resistance by having it checked every 12-24 months.

3. Servicing & Maintenance

  • Regular Servicing Intervals:

    • Quartz watches: Service every 3-5 years to replace the battery and check movement health.

    • Automatic/Mechanical watches: Service every 4-7 years to clean and lubricate the movement for optimal performance.

  • Signs Your Watch Needs Servicing:

    • Significant time loss or gain.

    • Moisture or condensation inside the crystal.

    • Loose or stiff crown/buttons.

    • Unusual ticking or irregular movement.

4. Strap & Bracelet Care

  • Leather Straps: Avoid prolonged exposure to water, sweat, and direct sunlight. Use a leather conditioner occasionally to maintain suppleness.

  • Metal Bracelets: Clean with a soft brush and mild soap water. Dry thoroughly to prevent moisture buildup between links.

  • Rubber & Silicone Straps: Wash with mild soap and water. Avoid oils, perfumes, and chemicals that may degrade the material.

5. Handling & Wear Precautions

  • Avoid Shocks & Impacts: Even though luxury watches are built for durability, avoid sudden shocks such as dropping your watch or intense sports activities.

  • Wind Your Watch Correctly: For manual watches, wind your watch at the same time each day. For automatic watches, wear them daily to keep them powered; if unused for long periods, manually wind them every few weeks.

6. Protecting Your Investment

  • Insure Your Watch: Consider watch insurance to cover theft, damage, or loss.

  • Keep Original Packaging & Documents: Retain your warranty card, receipts, and authentication papers to maintain resale value.

  • Authenticate Before Service: Always service your watch through an authorized service center or certified watchmaker to avoid counterfeit parts.
